As a Christian in a Christian community, deciding what dates to go on to flourish your relationship with one another and the Lord can be difficult. In this article we share date recommendations that are great for all couples, whether you’re a couple years into dating, or a couple decades into marriage.
What can Christian couples do for fun?
This is a common question in the Christian community. It sometimes feels like there are a bunch of dates that are “off-limits” for Christian couples because they don’t directly lead to a stronger relationship with the Lord. It’s important to note that spending time together and building one another up, no matter what you’re doing, is enough to grow closer to one another, and to the Lord.
Below I share date ideas that fall under various categories to help you find some fun, wholesome dates to go on with your partner.

- Serve the community around you by volunteering for a non-profit organization in your town together.

- For couples who love animals, volunteering at a local animal shelter is a great way to connect over shared interests.
- Homeless shelter
- Take time to research homeless shelters near you and schedule a time to serve lunch or dinner there together.

- Ministry opportunities
Outdoor Date Ideas

- Kayaking or canoeing
- Look up a local canoe or kayak rental spot along a river and make a reservation for two. John and I enjoy kayaking in rivers and canoeing in lakes or ponds.
- Bicycling
- Research some trails near you to go on a bike ride together. If you don’t own bikes, consider renting a bicycle through a local bike shop or a national chain like Trek Bikes.
- Hiking
- Plan a hike to view your city’s beauty in your town. Regardless of where you live, there are likely local trails within an hour of your home that you can enjoy together.
- Picnic
- Pack lunches or dinners, a blanket, bug spray, and sunscreen and head to a local park or public fields near you to enjoy a meal together outside.

- Movie theater
- Pick a movie both of you have been wanting to see and schedule time to see it together.
- Backyard movie
- Purchase or rent a projector to watch a movie in your backyard. Our local library rents projectors free of charge. If your library doesn’t offer that, MayerPro is a national company that allows you to rent a projector.
- Library movie night
- Go to your local library together to pick out a movie then go home, pop some popcorn, and enjoy the chosen movie together!
- Movie marathon
- Pick a movie series that both of you enjoy or haven’t seen and watch all of them in one night! We recommend the Hunger Games film series.
At Home Date Ideas

- Game night
- Spend the night playing some two-person games! This is a great way to connect without coming up with conversations.
- Dinner date
- Plan a romantic date night at home for you and your partner. Here’s how!
- Closet fashion show
- Take trunks trying on clothing items from your closet that you haven’t worn in a while. This will help remind you of clothing items you haven’t worn in a while, let you know what your partner likes you in, and purge items you know you won’t wear in the future.
- Just Dance (on Youtube)
- Feeling active but not wanting to leave the house? Play Just Dance on Youtube! There are many options, just by searching “just dance” in the YouTube search bar.
- New hobbies
- Talk about hobbies you’ve always wanted to try but haven’t had the time or energy. Do some research together on each of your top picks. If it’s a hobby that can be done in your home, take the first step to do that hobby.
Unique Date Ideas

- Get in the car, flip a coin and let that be the deciding factor for what turn you make next. Heads means right and tales means left. Do this until you get somewhere you can comfortably go in or walk around.

- Draw one another
- Grab a pad of paper and pencil and take 30 minutes each to draw one another from head to toe. When we do this we have the person being drawn lay down so they can relax and don’t get tired.
- Book reading in a park
- Grab a book from your book shelf or a local library and take turns reading paragraphs of it aloud at a local park. It feels silly but it’s fun!
- Vision board
- Gather magazines, newspapers, and any other visuals you may have lying around your house. Head to the dollar store and grab a poster board. Talk about what you want the next 5 years of your relationship to look like. Once you have a solid understanding page through the visuals and look for graphics, images, and text that reflect what you and your partner talked about. Take some time to paste these onto the poster board!
